Diafane is stained glass design software that supports you from the first line to the bench. In lead came or copper foil, on a tablet with a stylus or on a computer, draw the pattern, try the glass and simulate the sun at the installation site. Diafane then calculates the templates and quantities, and you print the pattern at full size. Everything is there, simple to pick up and with nothing to install!
Diafane in four modes
Cartoon Mode
Think only of your design, Diafane takes care of the rest! In lead or in copper, the technique is at the heart of the software from the very first line, and every area you close becomes a piece of glass whose exact shape Diafane knows. No brushes, no filters, no layers, only the tools you need.
Color Mode
Whether you are after a particular hue, transparency or texture, the three are set separately and combine freely. More than 1,400 glasses are ready to try, and you add your own with their price and workshop reference, to find them again in your stock.
Light Mode
Enter the installation address and the orientation of your opening, and Diafane calculates the sun's path at that exact spot. The light passes through every glass in three dimensions. You can settle between two blues, or show your client what their window will look like in the evening sun.
Workshop Mode
Whatever your assembly technique, in lead or in copper, Diafane adapts its calculations and gives you the exact shape and area of every piece. Numbered patterns, a full-size cartoon, the cut list, quantities and cost: all that is left is to print!
Of all the stained-glass software I have tried so far, Diafane is by far the best and most promising one.

On your first project, a four-step guided tour has you draw a piece, place a glass, see the light and produce a template. After that, the Help button explains every element on screen, and our illustrated guides walk you through step by step, from tracing a photo to printing the full-size cartoon.
Yes. Diafane imports SVG files produced by Illustrator, Inkscape or any other vector tool: your paths become editable lead lines right away. For a clean import, keep each lead came as a single line and convert your objects to paths before exporting. You then continue the drawing with Diafane's trade-specific tools. Import is part of the subscription.
Yes. You can print at 1:1 scale in A4, A3, A2, A1, A0, Letter, Tabloid or a custom format up to 5000 mm, for a plotter. On a desktop printer, a large cartoon is automatically split into sheets to assemble, without ever losing the scale: each sheet carries its alignment marks, and the first page a check ruler to verify the scale before you start printing. The preview is free, and downloading the PDF is part of the subscription.
Yes. Diafane handles copper foil, the Tiffany method, as well as lead came. You choose the technique at the project level (H/U lead came or Tiffany copper foil), set the foil width and its spacing, then pick the solder finish: silver, copper or black. The quantities then count the foil, the solder and the panel border, and the rendering, cutting and export follow the technique you choose.
